Software engineering is one of the hottest areas around. Software plays a critical role in our lives, from banking systems to telephone systems to home entertainment. Medical diagnosis and treatment couldn't be done without it. Industry is begging for more good software engineers. Clarkson's Software Engineering program spans the boundaries of other science and engineering programs to provide a rigorous, professional preparation for your career.
At Clarkson, we combine the expertise, knowledge and experience of faculty from both the Computer Engineering and the Computer Science Departments. You will work with experts on the application of theory, as well as those who know and understand the software process. A Clarkson education builds your abilities in teamwork, management, communication and creative problem solving.
U.S. News & World Report has named Clarkson as one of the smallest institutions in its "nationally ranked universities" category. That means you benefit from personal attention from professors who also conduct world-class research in areas of vital importance — and involve undergraduates in the process. For students, it's the best of both worlds — you're taught by Ph.D.s who are noted for their research, but whose primary mission is undergraduate education.
As a software engineering student, you will participate in a major design experience in your senior year, gaining valuable experience in teamwork and real-world learning. You also have the opportunity to sharpen participate in one of 16 SPEED teams (Student Projects for Engineering Experience), providing skills in creative problem solving, collaboration, communication and leadership.
