Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP)
The Clarkson Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP), co-funded by the State of New York and Clarkson University, offers a comprehensive academic support system to assist in student academic success. Programming provides a broad range of services to students who, because of academic and economic circumstances, would otherwise be unable to attend a postsecondary educational institution.
Clarkson HEOP students have access to a significant student-centered support system, including the Summer PRE-freshman Experience (SPREE), and academic-year guidance and support.
- SPREE consists of a five-week summer program to assist students with the transition to post-secondary education on a residential campus at no cost -tuition, housing and meals are included.
- Students may earn up to eight college credits through courses such as Pre-Calculus, Fundamentals of Business, Perspectives in Science and Technology, and Physics.
- Students also attend field trips, activities, community events, and orient themselves to campus as part of acclimation to the Clarkson experience.
Academic-Year Guidance & Support
While at Clarkson, each student receives tutoring services,
as needed, and access to a HEOP staff member who provides
academic guidance, career counseling, and personal and
social support.
HEOP Eligibility Requirements
- Be a New York State resident for one year prior to entry into HEOP
- Have attained a high school diploma, or the equivalent of a State Equivalency Diploma
- Demonstrated high potential and motivation for attaining a college education
- Be considered economically and academically challenged as indicated by guidelines set forth by the New York State Education Department (see www.hesc.com or call 888-697-4372)

- Complete a Clarkson University application and be sure to check the HEOP candidate box. Applications are available through high school counselor offices, the Clarkson Admission Office, or at www.clarkson.edu
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid
