Help and Support - Proxy Configuration
This document will guide you through the process of enabling a proxy service from your web browser.
You will need to follow this procedure if you wish to access restricted content from Clarkson’s
pages, as well as the online journals which Clarkson subscribes to. If you have any questions, please
contact the OIT HelpDesk (268-HELP).
Netscape: (Tested on Netscape Communicator 4.61)
- Click on the Edit menu, select Preferences
- Click on the box to the left of Advanced, select Proxies
- Click on the button for Automatic Proxy Configuration
- Enter the following address in the box labeled Configuration Location (URL): http://www.clarkson.edu/proxy.pac
- Click the Reload button
- Click OK
Microsoft Internet Explorer: (Tested on Version 5.5 Service Pack 2)
- If you are connected directly to a network:
- Click on the Tools menu, select Internet Options
- Click on the Connections tab at the top of the Internet Options window
- Click on LAN Settings
- Click on the check box to the left of Use Automatic Configuration Script
- Enter the following address in the Address box : http://www.clarkson.edu/proxy.pac
- Click OK to leave the LAN Settings window
- Click OK to leave the Internet Options window
- Exit and restart Internet Explorer
- If you are using a Dial-Up connection (i.e. Northnet) with Internet Explorer
- Click on the Tools menu, select Internet Options
- Click on the Connections tab at the top of the Internet Options window
- Click on the Settings button within the Dial-Up and Virtual Private Network Settings area
- Click on the check box to the left of Use automatic configuration Script
- Enter the following address in the Address box: http://www.clarkson.edu/proxy.pac
- Click OK to leave the Settings window
- Click OK to leave the Internet Options window
- Exit and restart Internet Explorer
Mozilla Firefox: (Tested on Version 1.5)
- Click on the Tools menu, select Options
- Click on Advanced
- Click on Network
- Select Automatic proxy configuration URL
- Enter the following address in the box below Automatic proxy configuration URL: http://www.clarkson.edu/proxy.pac
- Click OK to leave the Connection Settings window
- Click OK to leave the Options window
- Exit and restart Mozilla Firefox
You are now configured to use Clarkson’s Proxy Server! The first time you attempt to access
restricted data, you will be asked for your username and password. Use your iNotes username and
password. You can then access Clarkson’s web pages as if you were on the campus network. You will
be asked to re-authenticate every 4 hours. Note that if your computer’s address changes (as could
happen when you hang up and dial-in to your ISP), you may be asked to re-authenticate.
