Outdoor Adventure
Location. Location. Location. If you like adventure in the great outdoors Clarkson has one of the best locations you're ever going to find. Our 640-acre campus sits on the edge of a village in where the rolling foothills of the Adirondack Mountains meet the St. Lawrence River Valley.
The campus itself offers three miles of trails for hiking, biking and skiing through woodlands and wetlands. It also provides easy access to the mountains, rivers and lakes of the six-million acre Adirondack Park wilderness, which begins nearby. Year-round recreation opportunities range from backpacking, biking, and skiing to mountain hiking, camping, fishing, boating and swimming. Kayaking, canoeing and river rafting are popular, and also our students regularly go on expeditions for rock climbing and caving.
Clarkson's Outing Club, the largest and most active student group on campus, organizes excursions near and far that enable you to take advantage of the recreational possibilities in this spectacular environment. In the winter there are regular downhill trips to Whiteface Mountain near Lake Placid, about an hour and a half away. Students who enjoy outdoors launch most of their adventures from Clarkson's Adirondack Lodge, which serves as a homey gathering and meeting place and also provides storage facilities for outdoor gear and equipment.
