Life At Clarkson

Fraternities & Sororities

As a sophomore you are eligible to join one of Clarkson's 10 fraternities or three sororities. About 15 percent of our students join in the camaraderie of these Greek organizations. Each chapter is involved in a wide variety of activities and all emphasize service to the campus and surrounding community. Most offer members accommodation and serve meals in off-campus chapter houses.

Clarkson fraternity and sorority chapters strive to organize activities that embrace the academic mission of the University and create an environment of responsible leadership and service. Thus chapters aim at creating an environment where students can transcend ordinary roles within the University community. While many student organizations at Clarkson offer opportunities for friendship, personal growth and development, scholastic excellence, and leadership opportunities, it is the philosophy of fraternities and sororities that no other social experience can offer the entire spectrum of benefits the all-encompassing environment provided by Clarkson's recognized chapters.

Each chapter sends a representative to the Interfraternity Council (IFC) or Panhellenic Council, which deal with a variety of matters concerning the entire Greek community. The Greek organizations combine to sponsor the annual campus-wide events Greek Week and Ice Carnival, numerous broad community service events, and their own Greek intramural programs.

Today fraternities and sororities at Clarkson focus on their founding principles of leadership, scholarship, philanthropy, friendship, and personal growth. Although they vary, groups expect that their members will become leaders within the community, abide by the rules and traditions of the chapter and the University, and adhere to the higher academic standards of their organization. Clearly hazing and substance abuse are not consistent with the values that have been founded on and have no place within our organizations
