Naming / Memorials

Phil Garda '67
Classmates of Phil Garda '67 created a scholarship endowment in his memory.

Naming and memorial opportunities allow you to make a statement with your gift

  • Encourage achievement (e.g. John Jones Departmental Scholar Scholarship)
  • Describe your philanthropic goal (e.g. John Smith Library Book Fund)
  • Celebrate several generations of your family (e.g.Smith Family Scholarship)
  • Memorialize yourself, a parent, a teacher and/or a loved one.

Academic Support and Financial Aid
You might support an academic function such as renovating and naming a laboratory. You might create and name a collection of materials on a certain subject, or you might name pledged annual gifts to support research projects. You might create a named endowment:

"Bricks and Mortar"
You may name an area on campus such as an office in Bertrand H. Snell Hall. You may fund renovations for an academic laboratory, remodel an atrium, add a specialized wing to a building, even build an entire facility. Endowments may be created to maintain facilities as well. Specific examples where current support is needed include:

  • Cheel Arena Women's Division I Hockey Locker Room (Summer 2003) $125,000.
  • Cheel Arena Women's Division I Hockey Coach's Office (Summer 2003) $40,000.
  • Alumni Gymnasium Conference Room (New Construction Completed 2002) $30,000.
  • Alumni Gymnasium Women's Volleyball Team Room $25,000.
  • Alumni Gymnasium Men's and Women's Basketball Team Rooms $25,000 each.
  • Alumni Gymnasium Coach's Offices (8) at $15,000 each.

Term Endowments
Sponsored or term endowments exist for a defined length of time (a minimum of five years). During that period, the principal and its earnings are expended for the specific purpose so that, at the end of the term, no funds remain.

  • $500,000 - Sponsored/Term Professorships - Support for existing positions.
  • $10,000 - Sponsored/Term Undergraduate Scholarships
