Overview
The topic that we have selected is Violence as Entertainent. Each
member of the group has selected a form of entertainment that they
felt was violent and took a closer look at it. Below
are four links, each a link to a group member's findings. The first,
link is for information on combat sports and was completed by Jit. He
takes a look at how we have transformed combative reality
into an entertaining fantasy.
The second link is for a report on professional sports done by Nathan.
He takes a look at the NFL, MLB, and NHL and asks the question "Are
professional sports to be depicted as games for entertainment, or
are they acts of violence that we pay to watch". The third link is for
a report done by Dan on video games. Dan has focused on a game called
Diablo to answer the questions, "What exactly does playing
violent games do to a person?" and "How can you tell what is
appropriate for you or your children?" The last link is to a report
on WWF programming and is written by Todd. Here, the subject pertains
to children and how WWF programming may be effecting them.
We invite you to visit all four links at your leisure. We hope that
our reports will provide some information and insite into the world
of mass media, and more specifically the violence that appears in it.
